silly rabbit medical emergancies are for EMS workers!
Oh gosh.. when I started this up (again) I had planned on doin the whole one post a day thing... Apparently that goal was not reached.. In my defence though I have been extremely busy.. not that I think Im alone on that one. I know other people have busy and stressful lives, and a ton of people have a lot more to deal with than me, but there are a lot of people who have far less to deal with as well.. So here's to being able to considder my schedule demanding in an average inbetween kind of way. This was an above average week, however. I had police testing on wednesday, which I was up for at 5am, at the *wrong* place by 7:45 and at the right place by 8:15 with 15 minutes to spare.. Finnished the testing at 3:30 went home to change and then worked the night shift till 8:00 the next morning.. needless to say the drive home was a little interesting... I definitly do not recomend driving after being awake for over 24 hours.. Though it was never dangerous... I had the music blasting and the car was cold.. I was more awake on the drive than I had been for the previous couple hours.. well more cohearant... I never slept at work.. honnest! Anyways, then Friday I went in early because there was a huge emergancy.. I thought I was arriving to moniter things after the fact (ie. low key,run of the mill calls).. boy was I wrong.. Ihad a medical and then a fire alarm right after... and when I say medical, I mean I was calling 911 as soon as my eyes hit the scene..The intersting thing about that call (and I wont go into detail about this event too much as I dotn want details up on the internet for obvious reasons) is that the gentleman who first alerted me about the situation simply approahed me and in a very sasual, and uninterested manner said that I "may want to check out a lady in the store" as she needed medical assistance.. I was thinking it was a simple slip and fall at the most by his tone and level of concern... WRONG.. and when I asked if anyone had called 911 they said "no I just called security" 2 minutes later I received a page alerting me that I needed to attend the store immediatly... good thing I was already on scene... silly rabbits! I dunno maybe its jsut me, but I see a medical emergancy and I'm gonna call 911 right away... common sense right?? Though I must admit I am flattered that they think so highly of my skills that they dont think calling an ambulance or police is necessary... ha ha ..All kidding asside I think everyone handles emergancies differently, and not just that, their plans for handeling them properly are different as well.. Maybe calling me (security) is good enough for a store as it shifts the decision making and liability to someone else....someone who has had trained I guess.. Truth be told though, even with CPR and First Aid, Im not that skilled. I know the facts, but I have only now put them to use once (definlty not complaining about that). In the end though, the ambulance came (in 4 minutes which felt more like 40!) and the lady was ok in the end as far as I know.. and that is (as cheezy as it sounds) the most important part.
What this sitaution taught me was the following:
-I for whatever reason can see a person in a medical eppisode and not become frantic.. be it seeing too many movies, or the fact taht I am still extremely optomistic...
-The only point in which I do become flustered is when I have a phone ringing, radio going off 3 people asking me questions and a damn customer trying to get a stack of cards from behind me (cant you see this is a medical ememrgancy you crazy lady??? come back later) and even at that.. taking one step back and blocking out the noise (for only a second) brings you right back to the calm state of mind you need to be in..
-When put into sitautions that you have never been in or have no eperience with, your natural instincts kick in and you dont realize you dont know what youre doing until after its done.... I am happy with the instincts I have been given.
-I will make mistakes, I did not answer the question well regarding the intersections.. I knew the entrance to the mall that was needed, but I need to farmilliarize myself with the crossroads better.. In the end i got them there (to the mall) efficiantly, but I can shave some seconds on my part off by knwoing that like the back of my hand...
-I ahve also learned not to count on people doing what is logcial... I will always assume nothing has been done.. which I am learning is most likely the case.. though in this case a customer had done a decent job of taking care of the victim till I got there.
